Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecom provider, has reported a temporary service disruption affecting its popular M-Pesa and MySafaricom applications.
The company has informed its vast customer base about the ongoing issues through text messages.
The notification sent to customers reads:
“Dear Customer, M-Pesa and My Safaricom apps are unavailable. Kindly use *334# or SIM TOOL KIT as we work to restore the services.”
This unexpected outage has significant implications for millions of Safaricom users who depend on these apps for various essential services, including mobile money transfers, airtime purchases, and access to mini apps.
The M-Pesa app, in particular, plays a crucial role in the daily financial activities of many Kenyans, making this disruption especially challenging.
While Safaricom has not disclosed the root cause of the service interruption or provided a specific timeline for resolution, they have assured customers that efforts are underway to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, the company has advised its users to switch to alternative methods for accessing their services. Customers are encouraged to use the USSD code *334# or SIM toolkit to perform necessary transactions until the apps are back online.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
